The highly protected Szent István Cave is located in Lillafuuldre, 3.5 km from Miskolc. Its entrance is 500 m from the Palota Hotel, next to the Eger-Miskolc railway. The total length of its passages is 1043 m, and its vertical extension is 94 m. The length of the presented section is 170 m, and the length of the entrance route during the visit is 340 m there and back.
The cave was formed in the Middle-Upper Triassic limestone, in the Fehérkő Limestone Formation. Its first scientific description and naming is attributed to Ottokár Kadić, who descended into the cave with a rope in 1913.
The development of the cave's routes began in 1927, and it was opened to the public in August 1931.
The cave's surrounding rock is well karstified. Middle-Triassic limestone (Fehérkő Limestone Formation). The cave is a spring cave in terms of its genetics, the formation of which can be attributed to the water-sink caves located on the eastern edge of the Bükk Nagy-fennsík, which are located approximately 250 m higher above the entrance. The cave is connected to the underground water supply, i.e. the inactive spring cave of the water-swallowing caves discovered there.
Guided tours depart every day, at all hours, as follows:
During the summer period (April 1st - September 30th) daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
During the winter period (October 1st - March 31st) daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Minimum number of people required to operate the tour: 5 people. Exceptions are the 11:00 and 2:00 p.m. tours. guaranteed tours, they depart every day of the year, regardless of the season.

The cave environment, recommended clothing:
The Lillafrüredi caves can be visited accompanied by a tour guide. The sections are paved, lighted, and accessible to all visitors from the street, all year round. Traffic is facilitated by curbs, stairs, and even, waterproof walkways. The electric lighting helps with navigation and also brings out the wonderful cave formations and special solutions.

How to get to the Szent István Cave:
From the Tiszai-pályaudvar take bus 1 or tram 1 to Felső-Majláth, then from there take bus 5 directly to the bus stop next to the St. Stephen's Cave, or take bus number 15 to Lake Hámori. to the bus stop next to it, from where the cave can be reached with an easy 600 m walk.
For those arriving by car, park in the upper parking lot of Lillafred (50 m from the cave).
